(1) Dermis. Genuine leather is the most commonly used material for high-end handbags, especially leather.
Cowhide: Cowhide is subdivided into grained first layer cowhide, second layer cowhide, buffalo leather, calf leather, and lambskin. The first layer of cowhide is selected from the uppermost layer of cowhide. This kind of cowhide has tight internal fibrous tissue and fine pores on the leather surface. The second layer of cowhide is a scrap material in cowhide and its texture is not as good as that of the first layer.
Sheepskin: Sheepskin is also subdivided into goatskin and sheepskin. Generally, goatskin is used to make bags or shoes; sheepskin is used to make clothing. The characteristics of goatskin are that the skin lines are arranged neatly and densely, and the hand feels firm and soft; the sheepskin is characterized by clear and beautiful skin lines and soft feel.
In addition to cowhide and sheepskin, the leather materials commonly used for men's bags include pigskin, crocodile skin, ostrich skin, python skin and so on.
Advantages: strong toughness, wear resistance, good breathability, softer leather
Disadvantages: heavy area, difficult to maintain
(2) PU leather. PU leather is also called synthetic leather or artificial leather. This material is not made of genuine leather, but made of resin, chemical fiber and other synthetic materials. After the processing of PU leather, its appearance and feel can be comparable to that of leather.
Advantages: lighter weight, waterproof, easy to take care of, cheap, and more surface pressed patterns
Disadvantages: not wear-resistant, easy to break, inferior PU has a pungent odor
(3) Canvas. Canvas materials are more versatile than leather materials, and most casual handbags are made of this material. Canvas can be modified by printing, painting and embroidery to make the envelope more beautiful.
Advantages: Tough and durable, waterproof, clear texture, many patterns
Disadvantages: not easy to clean, heavy
(4) Nylon. Nylon is a high-grade composite chemical fiber material, which is very breathable, lightweight, abrasion-resistant, and waterproof; therefore, nylon is often used for sports or outdoor handbags.
Advantages: strong and wear-resistant, light weight, flexible, breathable, waterproof
Disadvantages: poor hygroscopicity, pilling after long use.
