Before touching the mask, clean your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer.
Take the mouthpiece out of the box and make sure there are no obvious nicks or holes on either side of the mask.
Determine which side of the mask is the top. One side of the mask has a hard, bendable edge and the top of the face is the top for shaping the nose.
Determine which side of the mask is front. The colored side of the mask is usually the front side and should face you, while the white side touches your face.
Follow the instructions below to use the type of mask you want to use.
Face mask with ear loops: Face mask holding the mask. Loop around each ear.
Mask with tie: Place the mask on the nose level, tie the tie to the top of the head, and secure it with a bow.
Band mask: Hold the mask with your hand so that the bridge of the nose or the top of the mask is within reach, and the headband is free to hang under the hand. Place the mask on the nose level, and then pull the top strap over the top of the head so it fits tightly against the top of the head. Pull the bottom strap over your head so it fits snugly against your neck.
Shape or pinch hard edges into the shape of your nose.
If using a mask with a lead strap: then hold the tie at the bottom, one in each hand, and fasten it around your neck with a bow.
Pull the bottom of the mask over your mouth and chin.
